The DownEaster
For Owners of DownEaster Yachts

This site is a non-profit, disorganized group of owners of DownEaster yachts who are banding together here to find shelter from the harsh reality of owning and keeping up a boat—DownEasters in particular.

How-To's

How-To's show you how one owner solved a problem, made an improvement, fixed a boat system or redesigned the boat in small or big ways. They are a great source of ideas of how you might also solve the same or similar problem. For information on how to submit a How-To, click here.

One of our members, Greg Smith, was kind enough to provide the above table from the Owners Manual.

As it turns out, I have the mast off my boat now and I have measured the rigging and it differs considerably from the above. Also, after some very carefull measurements I was able to calculate the rake of the mast and it's almost twice of what my Owners Manual seems to say. It's hard to read but I think it says 3/16" per foot. My mast is 43' - 9 3/8" from deck to top of pully box so I calculated the design mast rake to be about 8" aft. However, my measurement of the standing rigging I removed indicate almost twice that rake which tends to agree with the way it handles. I'm cutting the new rigging to restore it to the original design.

If anyone else has any input on this, send me an email.
