For Owners of DownEaster Yachts

How-To's

How-To's show you how one owner solved a problem, made an improvement, fixed a boat system or redesigned the boat in small or big ways. They are a great source of ideas of how you might also solve the same or similar problem. For information on how to submit a How-To, click here.

I am completely opposed to large picture windows at sea. The completed work on two of the ports should be visible, in the attached photo. Kendra made a sort of photo essay on the third port.  (See below for photos).   Each port took over 40 man/hours to complete. The timing on this is tough here, as we have 300 inches (7.5 metes) per year (American Samoa). Trying to plan so that the three days needed in a row (the part when the ports are completely open) occurs, with minimum rain takes a lot of elapsed time between ports, esp. with a busy work schedule. The trim and finish work can be done when ever possilble. By the way, the plexy is 1/2 inch (12.5mm) thick.

Port removed.  Foam core dug out approx. 7/16". Cutting rabbets into teak.
