How-To's

How-To's show you how one owner solved a problem, made an improvement, fixed a boat system or redesigned the boat in small or big ways. They are a great source of ideas of how you might also solve the same or similar problem. For information on how to submit a How-To, click here.

The "big window" on my DE38 were cracked and leaking when I bought the boat three years ago. Plus, they are a liability offfhore - breaking wave, capsizing, etc. I removed them, replaced them with cored fiberblass using a female mode on the outside, and added four bronze opening ports (all six original ports replaced also). The job appears original - there is no trace or outline of the old windows visible (I had to paint the whole cabin top too of course). The locations of the ports worked out well too - one is just above the stove, another is just outboard of the nav station so when you're seated on the quarterberth you can look out and get a great view. Here are a couple of outside pics - not great shots, but you can see the general idea.
